What LLC owners should know before titling a vehicle

The Registered Agent’s Role

Every Montana LLC must maintain a registered agent with a physical address in the state. This can be a person or a company. The agent receives legal documents and official notices, but this role does not automatically give the agent authority to own, buy, sell, or title a vehicle for the LLC.

Titling a Vehicle in an LLC

A properly formed LLC may apply to title and register a vehicle in its legal name. To help avoid delays, use the LLC name exactly as filed and prepare:

·Ownership documents assigned to the LLC

·Accurate vehicle, lien, and odometer information

·Current title and registration forms

·A signature from an authorized member, manager, or representative

Avoid Processing Delays

Confirm who is authorized to sign for the LLC. A registered agent may sign title documents only when separately granted that authority. Name mismatches, unclear signer authority, missing liens, and incomplete forms can delay processing.
